Water Filtration System Miami — Softer Water, Cleaner Drinking Water

If your shower glass has white spots no amount of cleaning removes, your dishwasher leaves film on glasses, or your tap water smells like a pool — that’s Miami water. Hard water from the Biscayne Aquifer scales your fixtures, kills water heaters early, and dries out your skin. Chlorine adds the taste. We install water softeners, reverse osmosis drinking water systems, and whole-house filtration that fix all of it — sized to your home, not to a sales script.

36 years serving Miami-Dade. Licensed master plumbers (#CFC1433145). Free in-home water test before we recommend anything — and we won’t sell you a $7,000 system when an $1,800 one solves it. Upfront flat-rate pricing, no overtime charges, manufacturer-trained technicians.

Why Miami Water Needs Treatment — And What Most Homeowners Don’t Know

Miami’s municipal water comes from the Biscayne Aquifer, which runs through limestone bedrock. That gives our tap water some of the hardest mineral content in Florida — typically 150-220 ppm calcium carbonate, well into the “hard” category. Add municipal chlorination, occasional turbidity events, and aging supply lines, and you get water that’s safe to drink by EPA standards but rough on your home, your appliances, and your skin. Here’s what we see most:

Limescale — destroying water heaters, dishwashers, and washing machines

Calcium and magnesium deposits insulate heating elements, reducing water heater efficiency 25–30% within 3 years and cutting unit life by 4–6 years. Your dishwasher leaves a haze on glasses. Your washing machine pump wears out faster. A whole-home water softener fixes all of it for less than the cost of one premature water heater replacement.

Chlorine taste, smell, and skin irritation

Miami uses chloramine (chlorine + ammonia) for disinfection — safer for the pipes than straight chlorine, but it doesn’t dissipate when water sits in a glass. It’s what makes your shower smell like a pool, dries out your hair, and irritates kids with eczema. A whole-house carbon filter or under-sink RO system removes 95%+ of chloramine and the taste that comes with it.

Drinking water — bottled water cost, taste, and emerging contaminants

A Miami family that buys bottled water for drinking spends $600–$1,200 per year on it. A reverse osmosis system installed under your kitchen sink costs $800–$1,500 and produces unlimited drinking water that’s purer than most bottled brands — plus it removes things bottled water won’t, like lead from older home plumbing, PFAS chemicals, and trace pharmaceuticals.

Whole-Home Water Treatment — Tested First, Sized Right, Installed Properly

We always test your water before recommending a system. Miami water varies by neighborhood, well vs. city supply, and even by which Miami-Dade service area you’re in. Same money, different system — we make sure you get the one that solves your actual problem.

FAQ

Miami Water Quality Questions, Answered Straight

Is Miami water hard or soft?

Yes. Miami-Dade tap water typically tests at 9–14 grains per gallon (gpg) of hardness, which the Water Quality Association classifies as “hard” to “very hard.” The hardness comes from the Biscayne Aquifer flowing through Florida’s limestone bedrock, which dissolves calcium and magnesium into the supply. Soft water is under 1 gpg — Miami’s water is roughly 10x that. You see the result on your shower glass, faucets, and inside your water heater.

Do I need a water softener in Miami?

If you’re seeing limescale on faucets and shower glass, your water heater is failing earlier than expected, or your dishes have white film — yes, a softener will solve those problems. The financial case: a softener typically pays for itself in 4–6 years through extended water heater life alone (Miami homes see 8-year tank life vs. 12+ year tank life with softened water). For homeowners with a tankless water heater, a softener is essentially required to maintain warranty.

What’s the difference between a water softener and a water filter?

A softener removes calcium and magnesium (the things causing scale and skin issues) using ion exchange. A filter removes chlorine, sediment, and contaminants but doesn’t change hardness. Most Miami homes need both — a combination system handles both functions in one cabinet. If you only have one issue (e.g., great-tasting water but brutal scaling), one or the other can work alone.

Is reverse osmosis water safe to drink?

Yes. RO removes 95–99% of dissolved solids, including the minerals that cause hardness, plus chlorine, lead, fluoride, and most contaminants. Some RO systems include a remineralization stage that adds back beneficial calcium and magnesium for taste — Sunny Bliss includes this on systems where customers want it. For drinking water quality and taste, RO is the gold standard.

How much does a water filtration system cost in Miami?

Range is wide depending on what you need. Point-of-use RO at the kitchen sink starts around $949 installed. Whole-house carbon filtration runs $1,495–$1,995. Whole-house water softeners are $3,395–$5,495. The most popular Miami install — combination softener + carbon — runs $3,495–$4,500 installed. Custom whole-house RO with softening can reach $6,500+. We give a flat install quote after a free water test, not before.

How often do filters need to be replaced?

Depends on the system and your water usage. Whole-house carbon filters typically last 6–12 months. RO membranes last 2–3 years; the pre/post filters in an RO last 6–12 months. Softener resin lasts 8–12 years. Sunny Bliss offers an annual maintenance plan that handles all of this on a schedule — most filtration systems fail because nobody replaces filters on time.

Is Miami tap water safe to drink?

Yes. Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department meets all EPA Safe Drinking Water Act standards and publishes annual water quality reports you can read. The water is safe — it just isn’t always pleasant due to chlorine taste, hardness, and the occasional sediment in older service lines. Filtration is about quality of life, not safety.

Will a softener increase my sodium intake?

Yes, slightly — and almost always not enough to matter. A softener exchanges calcium and magnesium for sodium at a rate of about 7.5 mg of sodium per quart of water for every 1 grain per gallon of hardness removed. At Miami’s typical 9–14 gpg, that works out to roughly 70–105 mg of added sodium per quart. For a household drinking 2 quarts of water a day, you’re looking at about 135–210 mg of added sodium daily — less than one slice of bread (≈160 mg), and about 6–9% of the FDA’s 2,300 mg daily limit.

For most Miami homeowners, that’s a non-issue. But if anyone in the home is on a strict low-sodium diet (under 1,500 mg/day for cardiac or kidney reasons), we recommend one of two fixes: install a salt-free template-assisted crystallization (TAC) system for the whole house, or pair a standard softener with a reverse osmosis system at the kitchen sink so your drinking and cooking water has effectively zero added sodium. Either solution is on the table during your free water test.

Do you offer financing for water filtration systems?

Yes. We partner with HVAC and plumbing financing programs that offer 0% APR for 12–24 months on systems over $1,500 (subject to credit approval), plus extended-term plans for larger combination systems. We give you the upfront cash price and the financed price side-by-side so you can choose.

Are water softeners worth it in Florida?

For most Miami homes, yes — the math works in 4 to 6 years. A $1,800 softener extends your water heater life by 4–6 years (a single water heater replacement is $1,400–$2,800). It cuts soap and detergent use roughly 30%, prevents the dishwasher haze and scale on faucets, and noticeably improves skin and hair. If your home is on well water or you have an irrigation-only meter, the math changes — call us for a free test before deciding.
