The good news: about 70% of the issues we see are simple fixes you can do yourself in 20 minutes. The other 30% need a certified Kohler installer. This guide walks you through the DIY fixes first, and tells you exactly when to stop and call.

Kohler Touchless Faucet Troubleshooting: Start Here
Before you take anything apart, work through these four quick checks. They solve the majority of “Kohler touchless faucet not working” calls we get.
- Wipe the sensor lens. Food, water spots, even fingerprints throw off the infrared sensor.
- Replace the batteries. Under-sink plastic box. Use the battery type Kohler specifies (usually AA or C).
- Clear the area in front of the sensor. A soap bottle or sponge sitting in the sensor’s view can confuse it.
- Reset the system. Disconnect power for 30 seconds, then reconnect. Watch for the indicator light to blink.
If you’ve done all four and nothing changed, keep reading.
1. Kohler Touchless Faucet Sensor Not Working
A dead sensor is the #1 problem we see on Kohler touchless faucets.
Clean the lens first. Soft cloth, mild soap, no abrasives. Hard water spots from Miami’s mineral-heavy supply (the Biscayne Aquifer runs about 383 ppm hardness) build up faster than you’d expect.
Check the battery pack. Look under your sink for a plastic box hanging off the supply lines. Pop it open, install fresh batteries, watch the polarity (+/-). If you find corrosion on the contacts, clean it gently with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol.
Reset the brain. Disconnect the battery pack for 30 seconds, then reconnect. Most Kohler touchless faucets blink an indicator light to signal a successful reset.
Check what’s in front of the faucet. The sensor tries hard not to waste water — sometimes too hard. A sponge or bottle in the sensor’s field of view tells it “something’s there, don’t activate.”
If sensor cleaning, fresh batteries, and a reset don’t fix it, the sensor itself or the control box may have failed. That’s where most homeowners stop and call us.
Sensor still dead? The sensor assembly or control box probably failed. Our Kohler-certified techs carry OEM Kohler replacement parts on the truck.

2. Kohler Touchless Faucet Flow Problems
Two flavors of flow trouble: not enough water, or too much. Both are usually easy.
Weak flow (trickle). The aerator is clogged with mineral buildup. Unscrew it from the spout tip (twist by hand, or use pliers wrapped in tape to avoid scratches). Drop it in white vinegar overnight, rinse, and reinstall.
While you’re under the sink, check that both supply valves are fully open (counterclockwise) and that the supply lines aren’t kinked.
Too much flow (firehose mode). The flow regulator inside the spout is stuck or damaged. You’ll need to remove the spout to access it — possible DIY for confident homeowners, but if you’re not sure, stop here.
In Miami, mineral buildup is the #1 cause of flow problems on Kohler faucets. We see calcified aerators and clogged flow regulators every week. A 20-minute cleaning usually restores normal flow.
Cleaned the aerator and flow’s still off? The issue is deeper — internal flow regulator, restricted supply, or a failing solenoid. We’ll diagnose it in one visit.

3. Kohler Touchless Faucet Turns On by Itself
A faucet that activates randomly is usually a sensor calibration problem or a stuck solenoid. Check for:
- Reflective objects near the sensor (shiny pots, mirrors) — they bounce IR back and trigger the sensor
- Bright direct sunlight on the sensor lens
- Low batteries (a dying battery can cause erratic behavior)
If none of those apply, the solenoid valve may be sticking. The solenoid is the electromagnetic component under the sink that opens and closes water flow on command from the sensor. When it sticks open or twitches, the faucet behaves like it’s haunted.
4. Kohler Touchless Faucet Not Turning Off
This one’s urgent — you’re wasting water until you fix it.
Immediate step: shut off the supply valves under the sink. Both of them. That stops the bleeding while you troubleshoot.
The cause is almost always a stuck solenoid valve or a failed control box sending a continuous “on” signal. Try:
- Disconnect power for 5 minutes. Let everything reset.
- Press the manual override button on the solenoid (usually on the control box under the sink). Sometimes this unsticks the valve.
- Replace the batteries with known-fresh ones.
If the faucet still won’t shut off, you need a solenoid replacement. This is where most homeowners call us — it’s an electrical-meets-plumbing repair, and getting it wrong can flood a cabinet.
Faucet won’t shut off? Shut the supply valves under the sink right now to stop water waste. Then call us — this is one of our most common emergency repairs in Miami.

5. Kohler Touchless Faucet Dripping
A dripping touchless faucet usually means worn O-rings, a calcified cartridge, or a solenoid that’s not closing fully. Miami’s hard water shortens cartridge life — what should last 15+ years can fail in 5–7 here.
Quick checks:
- Drip at the spout: internal O-rings or the solenoid not seating properly
- Drip at the base: O-rings where the spout meets the body, or loose mounting hardware
- Drip under the sink: supply line connection or a cracked solenoid housing — shut off the water immediately
Cartridge and O-ring replacement is doable for confident DIYers, but Kohler cartridges are model-specific. Bring the old part to a plumbing supply store, or send us a photo of your model number and we’ll bring the right part on the service call.
6. Kohler Touchless Faucet Power Problems
If you’ve replaced the batteries and the faucet is still dead, look at:
Battery contacts. Corrosion (especially near salt air in coastal Miami) can break the circuit. Clean with rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab.
Wire connections. Trace the wires from the battery pack to the control box and from the control box to the sensor. Anything loose, frayed, or wet is a suspect.
AC adapter (if equipped). Some Kohler models use AC power instead of batteries. Verify the outlet works (test with a phone charger) and the adapter is fully plugged in at both ends.
Control box failure. The control box is the brain. If batteries, wires, and adapter all check out, the control box itself may have failed. Replacement requires the exact model number and is usually a job for a certified installer.
When to Call a Certified Kohler Installer in Miami
Most homeowners can handle batteries, lens cleaning, aerator cleaning, and a reset. Stop and call a pro when:
- You’ve replaced the sensor or control box and it still doesn’t work
- The faucet won’t shut off after a reset
- You see water damage to electronic components
- The faucet body is cracked
- You’re past your comfort zone with plumbing or electrical work
Working on touchless fixtures means working with water and electricity at the same time. If that makes you nervous, that’s the right instinct. Call somebody who does it every day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my Kohler touchless faucet not working?
The most common causes are dead batteries, a dirty sensor lens, items blocking the sensor’s field of view, or a system that needs a reset. Work through those first. If none of them fix it, the sensor, control box, or solenoid valve may have failed.
How do I reset a Kohler touchless faucet?
Disconnect the battery pack (or AC adapter) for 30 seconds, then reconnect. Most models flash an indicator light when the reset completes. If your faucet has been running on weak batteries, replace them before the reset.
Why does my Kohler touchless faucet turn on by itself?
Usually reflective objects near the sensor (shiny pots, mirrors), bright sunlight, or dying batteries causing erratic sensor behavior. Less commonly, a stuck solenoid valve. If clearing reflective objects and replacing batteries doesn’t fix it, the solenoid likely needs service.
My Kohler touchless faucet is dripping. Is it serious?
A slow drip usually means worn O-rings, a calcified cartridge, or a solenoid that’s not seating fully. In Miami’s hard water, cartridges fail faster than they would elsewhere. Drips at the base or under the sink are more urgent than drips at the spout — shut off the supply valves and call a pro if water’s getting into the cabinet.
Can I install a replacement Kohler sensor or solenoid myself?
Possible, but tricky. You’ll need the exact replacement part for your model, comfort with both plumbing and electrical work, and patience. The risk of getting it wrong is a flooded cabinet. A certified Kohler installer can usually do the replacement in one visit and the labor often costs less than a second attempt at DIY.
Do you service Kohler touchless faucets in Miami?
Yes — Sunny Bliss Plumbing & Air is a Kohler-certified installer serving all of Miami-Dade and Broward. We carry common Kohler parts on the truck, so most repairs are done in one visit. Call 305-990-1399 or book online.
How much does Kohler touchless faucet repair cost in Miami?
Most repairs are a flat diagnostic fee plus a fixed repair price depending on the part. You get the total before we start. No surprises. Common repairs (sensor cleaning, battery pack, cartridge swap) are on the lower end. Full solenoid or control box replacement runs higher because of the part cost.
